One of the efforts made, namely exploring the international trade or sale of Merauke farmers rice to Pacific countries.
"We will try to communicate with the Minister of Trade, while encouraging that there is room for Merauke rice farmers to be able to sell to neighboring countries in the Pacific region".
"Until the future, Merauke produce is not only sold for domestic purposes, but the order can get to the Pacific area," explained Assistant for Economic Affairs and People’s Welfare, Regional Secretary Papua Muhammad Musa'ad in Jayapura, Thursday (1/10/2020), in Jayapura.
Another step taken is to improve the warehousing management in Merauke, in order to accommodate the farmer's rice
"But surely we also want to educate our community, more specifically farmers to have the ability to manage rice to better quality and how the farmers have good equipment".
"This is certainly so that the rice has good quality to compete with other rice in the market," he said.
Musa'ad added that the Papua Provincial Government and the Government of Merauke will also conduct a road map for how to encourage rice sales to nearby districts.
"However, previously encouraged the formation of UMKM first, so that the business that was carried out could be maximized and sustainable," he concluded.
