Pemprov Papua Minta TPID Perketat Pemantauan Harga Pangan Jelang Nataru Papua Provincial Government Urges Regional Inflation Control Teams to Step Up Food Price Monitoring Ahead of Christmas and New Year
JAYAPURA - Pemerintah Provinsi (Pemprov) Papua mendorong Tim Pengendalian Inflasi Daerah (TPID) kabupaten/kota memperkuat pemantauan harga, ketersediaan pasokan, dan kelancaran distribusi bahan pangan menjelang Natal 2026 dan Tahun Baru 2027. JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is urging Regional Inflation Control Teams at the regency and municipal levels to strengthen monitoring of food prices, supplies, and distribution ahead of Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027.
“Berdasarkan data TPID Provinsi Papua hingga minggu ketiga Oktober 2026, Indeks Perkembangan Harga (IPH) Papua tercatat sebesar 2,40.
The move aims to maintain price stability and ensure that people’s basic needs are met during the holiday season.
Andry, Head of the Economic Affairs and Development Administration Bureau at the Papua Provincial Secretariat, said regular monitoring needed to be intensified following changes in the prices of several food commodities in October 2026. Commodities requiring particular attention include red chilies, cayenne pepper, and broiler chicken meat.
“According to data from the Papua Provincial Regional Inflation Control Teams through the third week of October 2026, Papua’s Price Development Index stood at 2.40. This was lower than the figures recorded in the first and second weeks of October, at 2.64 and 2.50, respectively,” Andry said.
Andry identified Biak Numfor and Keerom regencies as areas requiring particular attention in efforts to control prices.
In the third week of October 2026, the Price Development Index of Biak Numfor Regency stood at 8.38. Price movements in the regency were primarily driven by red chilies, cayenne pepper, and broiler chicken meat.
Meanwhile, Keerom Regency recorded a Price Development Index of 2.60. Rising prices of red chilies, cayenne pepper, and chicken eggs were the main drivers of price movements in the area.
According to Andry, the regency teams need to consistently monitor market prices, ensure adequate food supplies, and keep distribution running smoothly.
Coordination among stakeholders is also needed to identify potential supply disruptions early. These efforts will help ensure that people’s needs are met ahead of Christmas and New Year while keeping price pressures under control.
The Papua Provincial Government hopes that stronger coordination and monitoring across all regencies and municipalities will help maintain food price stability and protect people’s purchasing power as the year draws to a close. ***
