Regent Interim Waropen Muhammad Musa'ad requested that all face-to-face school activities in his area be temporarily suspended.
He asked the relevant agencies as well as the school to prepare a leveling of health protocols such as hand washing, masks and hand sanitizer before reopening the school.
"Maybe we will meet the school committee and parents first to ensure health protocols are created in writing as the new face-to-face school reopens."
"But with the record all must be adhered to by the school, students and teachers who teach," the regent told the press by phone on Wednesday.
The regent acknowledged that Waropen regency is currently in the green zone. So the previous leadership took a policy to reopen the school face-to-face.
However, Musa'ad did not want to take any risks because the current Covid-19 in Papua Province in general continues to show a significant upward trend.
"Yesterday I visited a junior high school in Waren who has done face-to-face learning, well that is the question of whether the process can guarantee. Is there contagion or not? And as long as it can be guaranteed to be welcome".
"But even though it has been done face-to-face for an hour or two and then went home, I judged it still to be confirmed in writing whether the health protocol was implemented. Because if it's not very risky," he concluded.
