The Provincial Government of Papua has determined that in the middle of this month, on January 15, 2021, the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination will begin immediately.
For the initial stage it is estimated that about 10 volunteers will be vaccinated first.
The decision is as the result of the Coordination Meeting on the readiness of the covid-19 vaccination launch held by the Papua Province Covid-19 Task Force in Jayapura City, Friday (1/8/2020).
"In the early stages, as many as 10 people were designated as the first recipients of the vaccine in Papua".
"These 10 people are officials, community leaders, religious leaders and others,"
explained the Chairman of the Papua Covid-19 Task Force, Welliam R Manderi.
According to him, for vaccination the following stages will be prioritized to health workers, Police officers as well as public officials.
Then gradually it is also given to the general public or those over 60 years old.
"Basically vaccination will be done gradually. In the hope that all communities can be covered"
"But for the first 10 recipients who are completely healthy and there is no comorbid or accompanying disease. So, it is important that once vaccinated there are no problems in the future," he said.
He added, the implementation is for the benefit of the people, with the aim of transmission of the Covid-19 virus can be suppressed.
"In the sense that everyone in Papua is obliged and must be willing to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Because, Covid-19 vaccination is not a right but an obligation," he concluded.
