Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal encouraged the establishment of an emergency response unit to address issues such as security disruptions affecting the community.
This was conveyed by Deputy Governor Klemen Tinal when giving a statement to the press, in Jayapura, Tuesday (23/02/2021).
"For the province will be formed (unit) emergency response. Because if you follow the norms of the law that exist today, the role of the province is very limited to help people in districts that are experiencing armed conflict such as in Intan Jaya".
"So there needs to be an emergency response unit that will back up the governor's regulations with a new structure. So that later they are always present in emergency response efforts, so that any situation that concerns security can be resolved properly," explained Klemen.
Klemen makes sure the unit will be discussed in the near future with a number of relevant agencies. Because a number of districts in the Papua Province often have armed conflict between theFree Papua Movement (OPM) and the Police.
Previously, the protracted armed conflict in Intan Jaya made thousands of citizens displaced and afraid to do gardening. The threat of famine is still waiting in sight, although local governments have taken a number of steps.
In response, the Ministry of Social Affairs finally responded to the request of the Papua Provincial Government by providing 120 tons of rice for Intan Jaya refugees.
Deputy Regent of Intan Jaya Yan Koboyau said the last situation in Sugapa, Intan Jaya, has gradually recovered. Where there are already refugees who return to the village, but still a small number.
Meanwhile, Papua Social Service Chief Rebekah Haluk confirmed that the distribution of foodstuff aid will begin on Wednesday.
