JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has assured that healthcare services at the Jayapura Regional Hospital continue to operate normally following the appointment of Andreas Pekey as the Acting Director of the hospital. The official assignment letter was personally handed over by Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko Rumaropen at the Papua Governor’s Office on Thursday (November 6, 2025).
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the appointment of an acting official was necessary to maintain the continuity of public health services. According to him, a hospital—being a vital public facility—must not experience a leadership vacuum for too long.
“The government must ensure that all healthcare services continue without disruption. Therefore, an Acting Director has been appointed to ensure smooth operations and accelerate improvements in hospital governance,” said Aryoko.
Andreas Pekey, who previously served as Deputy Director of Jayapura Regional Hospital, stated that he is ready to carry out the mandate entrusted to him by the Governor of Papua. He mentioned that his main focus will be on improving the hospital’s service systems and management to make them more responsive to public needs.
“The Governor’s key directive is that there must be no more rejection of patients. Everyone must receive medical services, regardless of their condition,” Andreas affirmed.
He added that his administration will also strengthen the hospital’s administrative and revenue systems to ensure more efficient and transparent financial management. This step is expected to support the ongoing health sector reform efforts led by the Papua Provincial Government.
At the same event, the Deputy Governor also handed over an assignment letter appointing Jimmy S. Wanimbo as the Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Civil Service Agency. He was tasked with maintaining the agency’s managerial functions to ensure that all personnel processes continue according to established procedures.
This structural adjustment forms part of the Papua Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening good governance and ensuring that all public services continue to run effectively during the leadership transition period. ***
