JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government urges residents in its territory to be aware of hoaxes (fake news) that have recently been spread through social media.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Communication and Informatics Department of Papua Province, Jeri Agus Yudianto, in Jayapura, Tuesday (20/9/2022).
Jeri expects the public to be proactive in checking the veracity of any information that appears on social media, before sharing it to the public. Because if this is not the case, indirectly they will actually participate in spreading hoaxes through their social media.
"For example, he got hoax information on social media and then he forwarded it again through his personal account without checking the truth of the info. This is what we are afraid of, so we hope that people will not easily believe all forms of news on social media, whether pictures or news that is not yet clear about the truth," he said.
Jeri again appealed to residents to be wiser in managing social media over the current situation.
Because the purpose of hoaxes besides being divisive, is to provoke so that conflicts arise that will disrupt the security and order of the region.
"Let's respect each other and be wiser in managing social media for the current situation," he added.
About government activities and community services within the Papua Provincial Government, Jeri ensures that it continues to run as usual, despite the protests in Jayapura City, on Tuesday (20/9/2022).
"Government activities are running normally and there is indeed no direction or instruction for the State Civil Apparatus not doing the duties regarding the protests," he concluded. ***
