JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government sent eight students to participate in Jakarta's 2023 SMK National Student Sports Olympiad from September 10 to September 16, 2023.

The eight participants from Papua were representatives of 6 local vocational schools, which would later participate in Karate, Swimming, Badminton and athletics.

Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Service, Jeri A. Yudianto hopes that the students sent will be able to show the best performance. Even so, he hopes they can maintain the good name of Papua Province when competing.

"The most important thing is to uphold sportsmanship in addition to the best achievements. Because maintaining the good name of the region is important," he said.

It is known that the 2023 SMK National Student Sports Olympiad is a program of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The Education and Culture Office of Papua, as the leading sector at the provincial level, is tasked with conducting selections from the district and city levels.

The students were released by the Head of the Papua Education and Culture Office Christian Sohilatin last Thursday.

Sohilait in his statement hoped that the students would be able to show achievement. Because these young people will become leadership candidates in the future.

"And the main thing is being able to compete at all levels, not only at the local level but also nationally and even internationally," he said. ***
