JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government says it is ready to encourage Papuan young designers to develop more modern batik designs. So batik from Papua can attract market interest international.
"The Papua Provincial Government strongly supports the promotion of Papuan batik. For example, through the Papua Street Carnival event in Jayapura City some time ago. We encourage young designers to develop modern batik."
"In the event, the nuances are also the majority of Papuan batik. We will continue to encourage this kind of activity so that Papuan batik can attract the international market," explained the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Agency, Jeri A. Yudianto, in Jayapura, Monday (2/10/2023).
According to him, the Papua Provincial Government through Acting Governor Ridwan Rumasukun on various occasions has encouraged local residents to wear batik from Papua. Papuan batik is not only limited to clothing but also works of art that combine the natural beauty of Papua with the expertise of its craftsmen.
"Papuan Batik is a very valuable cultural heritage and has high value. It also has a deep philosophy, such as boldness and sincerity reflected in design and complexion."
"This means that we must be proud to have Papuan batik that has a great philosophy. So let's inflame love for culture by wearing of Papuan batik, as an effort to preserve Papuan culture and promote it to the wider community," he explained.
Meanwhile, nationally the peak of the National Batik Day commemoration was held at the State Palace, Jakarta, last Monday. The Acting Governor of Papua, Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun also appeared in the event titled “Parade Istana Berbatik”.
"In this event, the Acting Governor of Papua appeared wearing a red jacket with Papuan batik motifs. While inside, he wears a white Papuan batik shirt," he said. ***
