JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has begun tightening its belt on electricity and water usage. This initiative aims to reduce resource wastage while alleviating the burden on the regional budget.
"We have started conserving electricity and water. This is part of an efficiency strategy to cut government operational costs," said Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong.
Ramses emphasized that this policy applies to all Regional Government Work Units within the Papua Provincial Government. He urged department heads and civil servants to implement this measure with full awareness.
"This directive has been communicated to all Regional Working Units. We cannot monitor every individual during working hours, so we rely on the full awareness of civil servants," he stated.
Beyond budget savings, this policy is also part of Papua’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. "By reducing electricity consumption, we are also helping to mitigate the effects of climate change," Ramses added.
Regarding the proposed three-day workweek policy, Ramses clarified that the Papua Provincial Government is still awaiting technical guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs. "There has been no official directive yet, but regardless of the policy, we will ensure that public services continue uninterrupted," he concluded. ***
