JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has requested all transportation operators, both air and sea, to enhance their preparedness ahead of the Eid homecoming surge.
This follows changes in the school holiday schedule, which are expected to impact the number of passengers.
Acting Assistant II of the Papua Regional Secretariat, Setiyo Wahyudi, emphasized in the Coordination Meeting on Eid Transportation Preparedness that fleet readiness is crucial for ensuring smooth travel for the public.
"We urge operators, both air and sea, to prepare for a potential increase in passengers due to changes in the school holiday schedule," he said.
One of the main concerns of the Papua Provincial Government is the flow of passengers from Highland Papua. Currently, residents from the region must transit at Sentani Airport before continuing their journey outside Papua.
"Air operators need to assess demand. If it is high, adding more fleets or flights can be considered," Setiyo stated.
In addition to fleet preparedness, the Papua Provincial Government also emphasized the importance of safety in transportation operations.
"Don't just focus on the number of seats or passengers, but safety must remain the top priority," he stressed. ***
