JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Governor’s Expert Staff for Special Autonomy Development, Hosea Murib, stated that the commemoration of World Cleanup Day (WCD) Indonesia 2025 reflects Papua’s active participation in the global environmental movement.
In Papua, the WCD 2025 event was held at Holtekamp Beach on Tuesday (September 30). WCD is a global collaborative movement recognized by the United Nations since 2018 and is currently joined by more than 180 countries, including Indonesia.
“The government’s active involvement is not merely to follow a global trend but aligns with the targets of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025–2029, which aims to achieve 100 percent managed waste by 2029,” he said while reading the remarks of Acting Governor of Papua, Agus Fatoni.
Murib emphasized that waste management remains one of the most pressing environmental challenges that must be addressed immediately. Therefore, he called on all stakeholders at the district and municipal levels to carry out mass cleanup activities throughout October 2025 as part of Indonesia’s participation in WCD.
“All regional leaders and technical teams should use the WCD momentum as a turning point to reform waste management systems in their respective regions—for a cleaner environment and a better future for the next generation,” he concluded. ***
