JAYAPURA – The Youth and Sports Department of Papua Province asks all parties to appreciate the success of Governor Lukas Enembe, who in his leadership succeeded in organizing two national events, the XX National Sports Week (PON) and the XVI National Paralympic Week (PEPARNAS) 2021.

This momentum has finally made Papua, now it has been declared as a sports province.

"We can see that now in Papua there is an international standard venue. So that the commitment and policies of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe deserve high appreciation, because he was able to dismiss the pessimistic assumption from many parties that Papua is unable to hold PON and PEPARNAS," explained Acting of Head of the Papua Youth and Sports Department, Terry Wanena, in Jayapura, Saturday, answering press questions about the track record of the development of the number one person in Papua.

He said that all parties in Papua and even the central government should "lift their hats" with the bold policy of Governor Enembe, which focused a lot of budget on carrying out the two national events, more specifically on the construction of a number of venues.

Now at the moment, the venues left by PON and PEPARNAS will be used to attract sports seeds, as well as coaching Papuan athletes to be more accomplished at the national and world levels.

"We will prioritize football, athletics, rowing and others that are icons or leading sports of Papua. We will continue to look for the best athletes from Papua to excel at the national and world levels," he said.

He said that a number of PON venues built using the regional budget have been given to certain parties, such as the Jayapura City Government, Mimika Regency Government, Papua Regional Police, UNCEN, STT GIDI and others.

"These extraordinary venues are handed over so that all relevant parties can be involved to achieve achievements both from the community and Papuan athletes whose estuary supports Papuan sports achievements," he said.

It is known that there were 11 venues handed over, namely indoor volleyball and sand volleyball to the Papua Regional Police, Softball and Baseball, Rugby and Outdoor Shooting Fields to the Silas Papare Air Force Base and GOR Futsal SP2 to the Mimika Regency Government.

Then the Walikota Tennis Court to the Jayapura City Government, Softball and Baseball Courts and Trikora Uncen to Cendrawasih University and GOR STT GIDI to the Theology College of the Gospel Church in Indonesia (GIDI). ***
