JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government hopes that the community will be more aware of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness for a healthier and more comfortable life.
"I invite all residents to be more concerned about waste and maintain environmental cleanliness," said the Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong.
Governor Ramses revealed this during the commemoration of the 2025 National Waste Care Day (HPSN).
The commemoration of HPSN 2025 was commemorated with various activities at the Ex Paddle PON XX Venue, Jayapura City, on Friday (21/2/2025).
Governor Ramses emphasized that waste management awareness should start with oneself, family, and the surrounding environment, including workplaces.
"Waste has negative impacts on health and the environment. It can even lead to casualties if left to accumulate and pollute the surroundings," he said.
According to him, awareness in managing waste is crucial to preventing its harmful effects.
"I still see bad habits among the public, such as littering, especially in the Holtekamp area, which is often used for Car Free Day activities.
"Therefore, relevant agencies must take action, conduct public outreach, and use loudspeakers to remind residents to dispose of waste properly," he stressed.
HPSN commemoration began with a ceremony involving various stakeholders, communities, and students.
After the ceremony, hundreds of participants immediately took to the field for a mass cleanup operation in the Ex Paddle Venue area up to Youtefa Bridge. As a result, more than 2 tons of waste were collected during the event. ***
