JAYAPURA – The Papua Transportation Agency has proposed a free homecoming ticket program for residents wishing to return to their hometowns during Eid.
The program is expected to be funded by the central government, similar to the initiative implemented during Christmas 2024.
Acting Head of the Papua Transportation Agency, David Telenggen, stated that the free homecoming program could be a solution for those looking to travel, especially within Papua.
"We hope there will be free tickets, not necessarily for travel outside Papua, but also for intra-Papua journeys," he said.
According to him, during Christmas 2024, the central government provided around 100–200 free homecoming tickets.
The Papua Transportation Agency is preparing a formal request to the relevant ministries to seek support for the program.
"We have already prepared the request letter to be submitted to the ministry," David added. ***
