JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, emphasized the importance of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) in strengthening oversight from the early stages of regional development planning.
He made this statement during the inauguration of Sapto Agung Riyadi as the Head of the BPKP Representative Office for Papua Province, held at the Lukmen Hall, Papua Governor’s Office, on Monday (April 14, 2025).
According to Ramses, supervision should not only take place during or after project implementation but must begin at the planning stage. This ensures that planned development remains on target and avoids potential irregularities.
“If there is no oversight from the beginning, we may deviate from the original plan. That’s why we always seek input from BPKP, including in managing assets owned by the Papua Provincial Government,” said Ramses.
He added that BPKP’s role is also crucial in evaluating the alignment between plans and the final results of development. This role, he said, is part of efforts to build accountable and transparent governance.
On that occasion, Sapto Agung Riyadi expressed BPKP’s readiness to support the implementation of development programs in Papua, South Papua, and the Papua Highlands. He stated that BPKP will assist in aspects of governance, risk management, and fraud prevention.
“We ensure that the activities carried out by local governments comply with the laws and regulations. We also assist in improving governance and control systems to reduce the risk of fraud and corruption,” said Sapto. ***
