JAYAPURA – Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, attended the Commissioning Worship Service for political officials of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) in Papua, held at GKI Pengharapan Jayapura on April 13, 2025.
The service, led by Rev. Hiskia Rollo, coincided with the 7th Sunday of Suffering—which symbolizes "fulfillment"—and served as a deeply meaningful spiritual moment for the commissioned political officials, reaffirming their calling as public servants grounded in faith.
Chairman of the GKI Synod Executive Board in Papua, Rev. Andrikus Mofu, emphasized that this service was a follow-up to the decision made during the 18th GKI Synod Assembly in 2022 in Waropen Regency and had already been held in other provinces across Papua. "This commissioning is a vital part of our mission, as political officials carry God's mandate and are sent to work for the greater good," he stated.
The political officials who attended the commissioning service and are members of the GKI congregation included:
1. Mayor of Jayapura
2. Regent of Yapen Islands
3. Regent and Vice Regent of Waropen
4. Regent of Supiori
5. Regent and Vice Regent of Yalimo
6. Vice Regent of Yahukimo
Speaking on behalf of the commissioned officials, Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo conveyed a message that the trust placed in them is more than just a position—it is a divine calling.
“As political officials, we are sent by God through the GKI Synod in Papua to serve all people, without distinction, in our respective regions. And all of this is solely by His grace,” he affirmed.
In his remarks, Acting Governor Ramses Limbong expressed appreciation to the GKI Synod Executive Board in Papua for initiating this event amid the ongoing development and social challenges in the region.
“I urge all elected regional leaders to fulfill their responsibilities and leave the rest in the hands of the Lord who has sent us all,” he said.
He also encouraged the officials to serve with humility and a heart that fears God while promoting stronger coordination among regencies/cities, the provincial and central governments, and all stakeholders to build a better Papua.
Lastly, he called on all elements of society to support the successful implementation of the 2025 Papua Gubernatorial Election Re-Vote (PSU), ensuring it proceeds safely, smoothly and results in the election of the best leader for Papua. ***
