JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government continues to promote more effective, productive, and sustainable management of regional sports assets.
One of the measures being prepared is to change the management model for sports venues owned by the Papua Provincial Government, including facilities inherited from the National Sports Week (PON), through a Regional Public Service Agency scheme starting in 2027.
The policy is part of the regional government’s efforts to improve budget efficiency while ensuring that the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of sports facilities continue to run optimally.
“As part of the efficiency measures, we plan to cooperate with third parties. One of them is cooperation with the management of Persipura,” said Acting Head of the Papua Provincial Youth and Sports Agency, Laorens Wantik.
Laorens explained that the concept has already begun to be implemented in the management of several sports facilities, including the Sports Hall. Revenue generated from the utilization of the facilities can be reinvested to meet operational needs.
“Going forward, electricity costs, maintenance, and venue upkeep are expected to be supported by revenue managed through the Regional Public Service Agency. If the revenue is not sufficient, the financing needs can still be supported through the regional budget,” he explained.
The Papua Provincial Youth and Sports Agency is targeting full implementation of the Regional Public Service Agency scheme starting in 2027. Currently, the plan is still under discussion with the Regional Government Budget Team. ***
