Papua Provincial Government is working with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia (FK-UI) Jakarta to support the education of specialist doctors devoted to Papuan doctors.
This was put forward by the Head of Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Papua, Aryoko AF Rumaropen,SP. M.Eng, Thursday (Sept. 10, 2020).
In addition to the University of Indonesia, the Papua Provincial Government is also exploring cooperation with Gaja Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta, Diponegoro University of Central Java, and Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya East Java and Hasanuddin University (Unhas) Makassar South Sulawesi.
"The Special Autonomy Papua 2020 Affirmative Physician Scholarship program has completed the administrative selection phase in accordance with the requirements set by the destination campus namely the University of Indonesia. We will also explore cooperation with UGM, Undip, Unhas and Airlangga University,"Jelas Aryoko.
According to him, from administrative selection, a total of 112 doctors from Papua have been declared to pass administrative selection. They will participate in a pre-matriculation program of science equality and campus recognition. Then the next stage of university entrance selection is in accordance with the medical specialization program.
"After graduating from administration, the next stage is pre-matriculation and university admission according to specialization," he said.
On this occasion, Aryoko Rumaropen explained that the Special Autonomy Papua 2020 Affirmative Physician Scholarship program is based on the needs of health workers in Papua which until now has not been evenly distributed throughout the region in Papua.
"This specialist education program is in accordance with the direction of the governor and deputy governor of Papua who looks at the condition of the region and the health condition of Papuans. So the government needs to prepare specialist doctors to answer the blindness of health services in Papua," He explained.
He further stated that this scholarship is awarded to all indigenous Papuan doctors who serve in Papua and West Papua. "The opportunity is opened to all Papuan doctors who are in charge throughout Papua. Whether in charge of West Papua, in swamps, mountains or valleys or coastal (Papua). Everyone has the same opportunity."
