JAYAPURA - Ten athletes from Papua are confirmed to have joined Team Indonesia to defend the "red and white" at the Cambodia 2023 SEA Games next month.
Chairman of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, said 40 Papuan athletes were included in the Cambodian Sea Games Pelatnas.
However, of that number, only 10 athletes were selected to defend Indonesia at the biennial event.
"Nevertheless, we are grateful to God, and hopefully our athletes will fight optimally to make Indonesia proud," Kenius told the press, Friday (28/4), in Jayapura.
The Cambodian SEA Games will take place on May 5-17.
The Indonesian contingent numbered 599 athletes with details of 379 male and 220 female athletes.
While the ten Papuan athletes included in the Indonesian Contingent, namely Agustinus Abadi Ndiken (Javelin Throw), Farel Armando (Swimming), Priska Madelyn Nugroho, Chico Aurora Dwi Eardoyo and Ester Nurumi Tri Eardoyo (Badminton).
Then Sang Ayulni Priyoman (Cricket), Maria Corazon Konjep Wombaki (Cricket), Jeam Kelly Sroyer (Football), Maylencristy Aupe (Kunbokator) and Julius Rizhad Rumaropen (Hockey).
At the 2023 Sea Games, Indonesian athletes will compete in 31 sports out of a total of 36 contested.
Fielding 599 athletes, the Indonesian contingent targets to win 60 gold medals to maintain the position in the top three. ***
