JAYAPURA - The Department of Health of Papua found indications of housing construction not concerned with environmental sanitation problems. Among them is the construction of subsidized houses that do not have healthy latrines of septic tanks.
"We see that we still don't understand the importance of environmental sanitation. Among them, they have healthy latrines," explained the Head of the Management Section of the Occupational Health and Sports Environmental Health Program of the Papua Provincial Health Office Fery May Tindom in Jayapura, recently.
According to Fery, from the search in the field, there are still houses that do not have healthy latrines with septic tanks, so it has the potential to cause new problems in the future.
"Because house is healthy and meets the health requirements it must have a safe septic tank
so that it does not cause health problems for the community.
"According to Unicef through the Noken foundation, latrines have a septic tank made of fiber material, which is good because the material is environmentally friendly. This is what must continue to be encouraged," he said.
Papuan Government together with Unicef, recently through the Noken foundation continued to encourage Community-Based Total Sanitation Training (STBM) activities with the Fellowship of Papuan Churches (PGGP) and Anak Dusun Papua Foundation (YADUPA) from Jayapura Regency/City.
This training aims to make the community better understand the importance of environmental sanitation problems in the family environment. ***
