JAYAPURA - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Papua Province recorded that two of the three Consumer Price Index (CPI) cities in Papua experienced deflation or a decrease in the price of goods and services in general in August 2022.
Deflation occurred in Merauke Regency and Jayapura City, at 0.85 percent and 0.27 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, inflation occurred in Timika at 0.48 percent.
"So that the combined deflation rate of the three CPI cities is 0.18 percent in August 2022," explained the Head of BPS Papua Province, Adriana Helena Carolina in Jayapura, Thursday.
Adriana further explained that deflation in the two CPI cities occurred due to a decrease in prices indicated by a decrease in the expenditure group index.
