JAYAPURA - The people of Papua are considered still not caring and aware of the importance of registering their intellectual property rights (HAKI) in doing business. Even though this low awareness has the potential to cause problems in the future.
"There are many intellectual property actors who are reluctant to register their work through the local office. We have even socialized many times in a number of areas in the local area, but not many of them come to register their works".
"So we must continue to make new innovations for them, make recording and inventory and then encourage them," explained the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Papua Province, Anthonius Ayorbaba, Wednesday (5/10/2022), in Jayapura.
Anthonius said, another obstacle is that most intellectual property actors are reluctant to register because of the costs that must be incurred, such as for the registration of song copyrights which are charged IDR 400 thousand.
"The cost of IDR 400 thousand is considered too expensive, even though the copyright period of the song is valid for 75 years and can be extended, if the brand copyright period is 10 years," explained Anthonius.
Therefore, Anthonius also expects support from local governments to encourage intellectual property recording.
"Because for now, only the Papua Provincial Government, Jayapura City Government, Jayapura Regency Government, Mimika and Asmat have supported it, but there are still several other districts that have not been at all," he added.
However, Anthonius still admitted that he was optimistic that he could achieve the target of 1,000 certificates processed in 2022. As of now a total of 699 copyrights, 331 brands, 3 communal intellectual property are processed. ***
