JAYAPURA - The Republic of Indonesia Satellite (SATRIA-1) was officially launched from the sky of Florida, United States, at 07.21 Eastern Time Zone, Monday (19/6/2023).
SATRIA-1 goes directly to an orbit of 146 degrees BT or above the sky of Papua. It is estimated that the satellite will be in position in November 2023.
Head of Information Technology of the Papua Provincial Communication and Informatics Department, Thomas Sibi told the press in Jayapura that his party appreciated the launch of SATRIA-1 because it provided great benefits for frontier, remote, and underdeveloped (3T) areas.
" We really appreciate it, because it is in accordance with the launch target. That way the government program can be quickly realized," he explained on the sidelines of the launch of SATRIA-1, in Jayapura City, Monday afternoon.
Thomas also believes that the existence of SATRIA-1 will help accelerate internet access in frontier, remote and underdeveloped areas.
Especially in Papua, there are eight districts in one city that do not have internet access at all, namely Mamberamo Raya Regency.
"While other areas have internet access but are constrained by blank spots. So it is hoped that the existence of the SATRIA 1 Satellite can facilitate internet services, "he explained.
Head of Telecommunication and Information Services Division Business Entity 1 Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency, Ade Dimijanty said Satria-1 has a capacity of 150 Gbps and will be prioritized for public services such as education, health and other sectors.
SATRIA-1 is targeted to start serving the needs of fast internet access for public service points in early 2024 because after the launch there are several phases before it is ready to operate.
"One of them is the provision of ground station segments and terminals for satellite internet access at public service points after launch," he said.
It is known that as many as 11 ground stations held a watch together with the launch of SATRIA-1 including three regions of Papua, namely Jayapura City, Mimika Regency in Central Papua and Manokwari in West Papua. ***
