JAYAPURA - Acting Assistant Secretary of Papua for Economic Affairs and People's Welfare, Suzana Wanggai invites district and city governments in Papua to jointly control inflation, by maintaining price and supply stability.
This was conveyed by Assistant Suzana, after watching online the Launching of the Cheap Food and Cheap Market Movement in 290 locations throughout Indonesia, Monday (26/6/2023), at the Governor's Office, Jayapura.
"Inflation rate of Papua is 3.69 percent in June 2023, compared to last May 4.05 percent. But we should not be complacent with this decline in numbers. The Provincial Government with the Regional Government Inflation Team (TPID) and the district/city government will continue to control the inflation rate in Papua," said Suzana.
Suzana said that the Papua Provincial Government and the Regional Government Inflation Team has continued to strive reducing the inflation rate in Papua since the beginning of last year. From January to June 2023, it has been recorded that the Papua Provincial Government has carried out cheap market activities six times.
This cheap market will be promoted to help the community in terms of the availability of goods at relatively low prices.
The head of the Agriculture and Food Security Department of Papua, Semuel Siriwa invited all components in Papua to maintain regional food price stability. The inflation will be controlled if food is well available at affordable prices and available for remote regions of Papua.
"Indeed, today the cheap market are only at three spots, but we hope that with the hard work of all parties, especially the Inflation Team of Papua can get to the village (holding a cheap market). Actually, those villages need food the most."
"For example, there is no cooking oil, so this is what needs to be worked on and done. Which has been done by Assistant Susana Wanggai who visited the market in the border area," he said.
In addition, Siriwa did not forget to appeal to distributors to support the government in controlling regional inflation. "Let's work hand in hand to be a team that continues to maintain food supply and prices in Papua," he said.
