JAYAPURA - Korpri Papua tennis for the men's team number managed to advance to the knockout phase, after defeating South Kalimantan in the preliminary round of Pornas XVI Korpri, which took place at the Jatidiri Tennis Court, Semarang, Central Java, Sunday (16/7/2023).

Playing in the achievement category, Papua fell behind first with a score of 3-6. Then made a comeback in the second set of the U-100 category with a score of 6-4.

In the final set or decisive round that competed in the U-105 category, a point chase occurred. Even Papua had to ensure victory through a tiebreak after a 6-6 (5-4) draw. Furthermore, it was confirmed to qualify with a score of 2-1.

Luck is not followed by women's team tennis. They had to be eliminated early after losing to the defending champions Central Java. Papuan tennis player had to finish the match with a score of 0-3 (1-6, 1-6, 0-3).

In addition to the men's team number, Tennis still has several numbers that will only compete on Monday (17/7). There are men's individual numbers, women's individuals, mixed numbers and executive numbers. The target to win 2 gold medals is still wide open.

Papua Tennis Manager, Tery Wanena appreciated all athletes who had fought hard in the match, even though they had lost. He hopes, in the next match they can still achieve the best results.

"All the athletes have given their best until the second day of the match. And hopefully tomorrow (Monday) athletes can still consistently win," said Terry. ***
