JAYAPURA - The number of members of the Papuan People's Council (MRP) for the 2023-2028 period is now 42 people. This was after the inauguration of eight MRP Members by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Wempi Wetipo, on Tuesday (5/12/2023),in Jayapura.
In his speech, Wetipo hoped that all MRP Members would unite and work better to answer the expectations of all parties. MRP Members are also expected to be able to realize Special Autonomy correctly because it is a product of Special Autonomy.
"Of course, MRP must also have a breakthrough in the future, because if not, it means that their credibility must be questioned. Because they were chosen to protect OAP rights," he said.
According to the Vice Minister of Home Affairs, the determination of elected candidates and the ratification of MRP Members for the 2023-2028 term have several obstacles and dynamics that have developed. This condition makes the inauguration of MRP Members carried out in two stages.
"So I hope this needs to be a record and serious attention and a place for joint evaluation. That way it is hoped that similar things will not happen again in the future,"pleaded the Vice Minister of Home Affairs.
The Vice Minister of Home Affairs asked the Governor of Papua, the Papuan House of Representatives and the MRP to immediately evaluate the current MRP problems. So that later it can prepare for the upcoming MRP member elections as well as possible.
"So that these MRP Members in carrying out their duties can be optimal and beneficial to the community, especially indigenous Papuans,"he said. ***
