JAYAPURA - The former two-term Governor of Papua (2013-2018 &2018-2023), the late Lukas Enembe, passed away on Tuesday (12/26/2023).
The man born in Mamit, Tolikara Regency died around 10.45 West Indonesian Time, at the Kartika Pavilion of Gatot Subroto Hospital, Jakarta.
Through Acting Assistant for Government Affairs Yohanes Walilo, the Acting Governor of Papua expressed his deep condolences for the news. The reason is that Christians are currently in the atmosphere of Christmas celebrations.
"We are very sorry for this," explained Walilo in a meeting with the Papua Police Chief, Danrem 172/Praja Wira Yakthi Kodam XVII Cendrawasih and the heads of several local Regional Work Units.
While responding to this, the Papua Provincial Government paid its last respects by appealing to all residents of Cenderawasih Earth to fly the flag at half-mast from December 27 to 29, 2023.
The public is also urged to maintain security and peace and pray for each other as a form of respect for the deceased.
Meanwhile, the body that is currently being buried at Gatot Subroto Hospital, Jakarta will be flown to Jayapura on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 evening and is expected to arrive at Sentani Airport Jayapura, on December 28, 2023 morning.
The next agenda related to the funeral and burial of the deceased will still be further communicated with the family and the church. ***
