JAYAPURA - The process of paying off the arrears of the Papua Superior Scholarship for the July-December 2023 period, has been rolling since last week.
As of Tuesday (6/2/2024), the arrears paid by the Papua Provincial Government were recorded at IDR 55 billion out of the total arrears of IDR 116.8 billion.
According to Assistant I of Regional Secretariat Papua, Yohanes Walilo, it is paid to all universities at home and abroad. It targets the payment to be completed this February.
"We pay everything for campuses abroad and domestically. Meanwhile, the budget for settling arrears comes from the government budget of Papua Province, districts/cities and provinces in New Autonomous Region."
"Namely, Highland Papua IDR 10 billion, South Papua IDR 5 billion, Central Papua IDR 25 billion, main districts/cities and Papua provinces," Walilo said in Jayapura on Tuesday.
He hopes that all parties will be patient because the process of payment or remittance between countries must pass a series of checks, so it takes time.
"We deposit it to Bank Mandiri Jayapura, then they send it to Bank Mandiri Pusat. Then the center sends it to the central bank in the destination country, and then sent to a small bank in the region.”
"It will be checked where the money came from, what money so it does seem long. The payment of arrears of overseas campuses takes about three to four days," he explained.
While questioning the seven students who were repatriated, Walilo added that it was not because of deportation. On the other hand, the seven students were not included in the Papua Superior Scholarship program. ***
