JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government invites all press personnel in Papua to participate in overseeing the transition of national and regional leadership.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Papua Communication and Informatics Service, Jeri Yudianto, to reporters in Jayapura City, responding to the commemoration of National Press Day (HPN) which falls today (Friday, red).
"Today February 9, 2024, is the commemoration of National Press Day. Of course, we appreciate the work of the press.Both journalists, press business entities and press activists who together with the government build and oversee the development of Papua in the current regional leadership transition period," explained Jeri.
While related to the political year, Jeri asked Papuan press personnel to voice good news to maintain the unity of the nation, specifically harmony between fellow people in Papua.
"This is important to create a safe and peaceful atmosphere in Papua," he hoped.
Separately, Chairman of the Papua General Elections Commission, Steve Dumbon expressed his hope for the progress of the press world in commemoration of National Press Day. The former TV journalist wants the press to continue to fight for democracy for the progress of Indonesia, especially ahead of the upcoming February 14 Democracy Party.
"I also appeal for the support of the press. One of them invites people to come to the polling station (TPS) to cast their vote," Steve appealed.
Steve also expects a positive role from the press in disseminating conducive information. "Moreover, the 2024 election is the largest and most complex in the world. So that support from the media in delivering calm and informative messages is needed," he said.
Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Papua, Hans Bisay invites all members of the press to unite because it is an important step in increasing professionalism and solidarity and in carrying out journalistic duties.
He added that the Indonesian Journalists Association of Papua is committed to continuing to fight for the rights of journalists. "As well as freedom of expression to maintain press freedom in Papua," he concluded. ***
