JAYAPURA - Acting Governor of Papua Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun hopes that the voting process, which will take place on February 14, 2024, will be safe and smooth and can soon broadcast the results to the public.
"So that from this election, we can get new leaders, both the president and his deputy as well as the legislature at the central, provincial, and district and city levels," explained the Acting Governor, after voting at polling station 33 Waena Village, Heram District, Jayapura City, Papua, Wednesday (2/14/2024).
Asked about the obstacles to voting at the voting booth, the Acting Governor admitted that it was not difficult, but it was possible for the elderly society.
They will have little difficulty opening the ballot papers of provincial and district and city parliaments.
"For us, it took quite a long time, we should have been counting almost 5 minutes (because the ballot paper was big). It takes longer for the elderly."
"But hopefully it will not reduce the enthusiasm for residents to channel their voices," he hoped.
The Chairman of Papua Provincial General Election Commission, Steve Dumbon said that logistics distribution is still running because there are several points experiencing obstacles.
"There are four points in Waropen, Sarmi, Mamberamo Raya and Keerom regencies. This is at difficult points geographically," he said.
Nevertheless, the process is still being pursued, hopefully it can soon be distributed properly.
"The statutory voting time is 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. So in Papua, it cannot fulfill that."
"But we have reported to the central government about the possibility of breaking the rules. Because of this condition, the General Election Commission hopes that the important thing today people can vote," he said. ***
