JAYAPURA - Head of the Papua Education Office Christian Sohilait has been officially inaugurated as the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, replacing the previous acting Frans Pekey who expired.

The former Regional Secretary of Lanny Jaya was inaugurated by the Acting Governor of Papua, Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun in Jayapura City on Monday (27/5/2024).

Governor Ridwan in his direction entrusted five important tasks that the Mayor of Jayapura must carry out. Namely, implementing programs to overcome stunting and malnutrition, control regional inflation, and food security, reduce unemployment and extreme poverty.

"I hope that the newly appointed Acting Mayor of Jayapura will also be obliged to submit a report on the responsibility for the implementation of the governor's duties at least once every three months," he said.

Ridwan on that occasion also requested that the Acting Mayor of Jayapura bring services closer to the community and be responsive to the interests of the community.

"Including paying attention to aspirations and realizing the hopes of the community," he added.

Acting Mayor of Jayapura Christian Sohilait ensured that he was ready to carry out the instructions of the Acting Governor of Papua. Moreover, Jayapura City is a barometer in nine regencies/cities, in Papua Province.

His party also ensures that it is ready to carry out regional elections in Jayapura City because it is the main task of the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, which is to prepare the implementation of elections to the inauguration of the definite regional head in the Port Numbay area.

"My task is to create a safe atmosphere in Jayapura City, also prepare for the regional elections and later we will strengthen coordination with community leaders, customs and religion," he said.

It is known that Governor Ridwan on that occasion also handed over the decree extending the term of office of the Acting Regent of Sarmi Markus Oktavianus Mansnembra at the Papua Governor's Office Hall in Jayapura City.

The Governor also appointed several Heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) to maximize performance and accelerate the implementation of development in Cenderawasih Earth. ***
