JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government has established the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) in districts/cities.
"Until now, there has been no UPTD PPA in districts and cities. Therefore, we hope the unit will be created as soon as possible to make reporting violent discrimination and special protection for women and children easier," explained Papua Regional Secretary Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun in Jayapura, on Wednesday (28/8/2034).
Nevertheless, Rumasukun continued, UPTD PPA formed in districts and cities must pay attention to the specificity of the local area. Papua is famous for its large diversity of ethnic languages, so it requires different treatment.
"For example, in Lapago, no women are leadersthere. A formula must be madeso that it can be equalized, it's just that everything is also by customs," he explained.
According to Rumasukun, the most important thing of all is how the woman must have an income for herself. So that it does not depend on the husband, thereby creating independence and gender equality in Papua.
Meanwhile, through the meeting of the advisory committee of the program to improve access to legal and social services for local women, the Regional Secretary, Rumasukun considered this effort to overcome inequality in the surrounding environment.
Therefore, his party supports legal and social discussions for women, especially in Papua Province.
"This activity is good and we fully support the discussion of the legal service program for women which leads to the discussion of the regulation," he said. ***
