JAYAPURA - The Papua General Election Commission (KPU) announced the number of voters with disabilities in the local area amounted to 2,141 people.
The highest number is in Biak Numfor Regency with 676 voters with disabilities and Jayapura Regency with 381 people.
"Then Jayapura City with 293 voters, Yapen Islands with 289 people, and Waropen with 180 people.
"There are also 113 people in Sarmi Regency, 98 people in Keerom, 94 people in Supiori, and 16 people in Mamberamo Raya with disabilities," explained Chairman of the Papua General Election Commission, Steve Dumbon, in Jayapura City, Thursday (17/10/2024).
Meanwhile, Steve continued that the Papua KPU has prepared 4,046 special ballots for voters with disabilities. This is an important step to increase voter participation.
"This follows the technical instructions and the mandate of law number 8 of 2016 concerning persons with disabilities."
"Therefore, we have also made a special polling station for voters with disabilities so that the implementation of the 2024 Regional Elections is friendly to those with special needs," he said.
He added that each polling station will get two special ballots for disabilities, but if it is not enough, it can immediately coordinate with the KPU to make additions. ***
