JAYAPURA – The Papua Communication and Information Service considers the policy of the Ministry of Communication and Digital to limit access to social media use based on age is a good thing.
The Head of the Papua Communication and Information Service, Jeri Agus Yudianto, said that this was done in the context of accelerating child protection rules in the digital space.
"This is also related to personal data protection, because if you set up a system on social media platforms when creating an account, it must be validated with the personal data of each user," said Jeri.
Jeri continued, but the essence is more than that how each netizen or social media user further improves digital literacy skills.
That way, capable, wise and social media culture can be owned by each individual.
"It will also be better for digital literacy or lessons at every level of education to be carried out more massively, including in the informal sector and religious institutions. This requires the collaboration of all components," he explained.
Especially in the Provincial Government, Jeri conveyed through the program of providing internet access in each location by the Communication and Informatics Office. In addition to internet access devices, his party also teaches how to use the internet in the right way.
"In fact, in the 2025 Fiscal Year, we have a target of 1,500 people to get the right internet socialization," said Jeri.
It is hoped that from the target who gets socialization, they can transmit it to their closest friends and family.
"We are very open if there are other stakeholders willing to collaborate on this," he said.
So that we maintain our digital space in addition to the plan for an age-based internet access restriction program that the government plans to carry out. ***
