JAYAPURA - The Papua Provincial Government will develop a concept of land management in various regions so that food production can increase.
"The management concept is certainly adjusted to the characteristics of each region," said the Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, Friday (7/2/2025).
Governor Ramses gave an example that there are several hundred hectares of land in Keerom Regency that can be intensified.
"Likewise, in Sarmi and other areas. Unproductive lands will be processed or collaborated with farmer groups to increase their productivity," he said.
In addition, Governor Ramses stated that the government is also preparing a large-scale management plan for agriculture and plantations.
"Including the development of sago which is a typical Papuan food commodity. We can't immediately set a target, but it must be conceptualized first," said Ramses.
As a first step, said Ramses, his party encourages food self-sufficiency from the government environment.
"So there are plant seeds such as chili peppers and shallots that are distributed to Regional Apparatus Work Unit to be planted in their respective mini gardens," he said.
The next stage, he continued, will be expanded to districts and districts/cities. "We start first internally, after that it will be expanded to districts," said Ramses. ***
