JAYAPURA – In anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan, the Papua Provincial Government is set to organize discounted markets in eight districts/cities. This initiative, led by the Department of Food Crops, Horticulture, and Food, aims to curb the rising prices of essential goods.
"We have coordinated with the Logistic Agency, the Post Office, and several other partners to ensure the readiness of these discounted markets," said Acting Head of the Papua Food Crops, Horticulture, and Food Department, Lunanka Daimboa.
According to Lunanka, this initiative aligns with the National Food Agency’s (BPN) directive, urging local governments to actively hold discounted markets before major religious holidays. In addition to these markets, the Papua Provincial Government also plans to conduct market operations, launch affordable food movements, and activate grocery stores in various locations.
"Our goal is to stabilize prices and keep inflation under control," she stated.
While the exact number of discounted market events is still being finalized, Lunanka assured that her department is continuously coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure affordable prices for consumers.
Interestingly, this time, the discounted markets will not only be held in open spaces but also in mosques to better reach those in need. "We want to make sure that the people who truly require assistance can directly benefit from this program," she added. ***
