JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has expressed concerns that corruption issues in the national oil management system should not disrupt the distribution of fuel to Papua.
Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, emphasized the importance of maintaining fuel availability to ensure economic stability and public welfare.
"We urge Pertamina to guarantee a smooth fuel supply to Papua. Legal matters should be handled by the central government, but they must not interfere with fuel distribution, especially to our region," Ramses stated.
He explained that Papua heavily relies on fuel supplies from other regions due to its geographical distance from oil refineries.
"For the eastern region, fuel is typically supplied from refineries in Ambon and Sorong before reaching Papua," he added.
Ramses warned that any disruption in fuel distribution could have widespread effects, impacting transportation and logistics, which could ultimately drive up the prices of essential goods.
"Fuel is a vital commodity that must be kept available. If distribution is hindered, logistics will be delayed, prices will rise, and inflation could follow," he stressed. ***
