JAYAPURA – The Papua Department of Trade and Industry is hosting a cheap market to help the community access necessities at affordable prices. The items sold are government-subsidized, making them 15 percent cheaper than typical market prices.
“We want the community to experience the benefits. The prices of necessities in this cheap market are lower due to the subsidy,” said Hartati Iwanggin, the Head of the Papua Department of Trade and Industry, on Wednesday (March 19, 2025).
The cheap market offers a variety of essential goods, including rice, sugar, eggs, cooking oil, beef, and chicken. The Papua Provincial Government is also partnering with distributors to provide Eid-related products such as canned drinks and cookies.
“This is part of our price control efforts leading up to Eid. We assure that the stock is sufficient, so people don’t need to worry,” she stated.
Following the event at Baiturrahim Grand Mosque, the cheap market will take place in Waena, with the final event at PTC Entrop. The government hopes this initiative will assist the community in meeting their Eid needs at more affordable prices. ***
