JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government plans to make the cheap market program a regular event, rather than limiting it to holiday seasons. The market will be held on various occasions to help the public access essential goods at lower prices.
Acting Governor of Papua, Ramses Limbong, stated that the cheap market is part of the government’s strategy to maintain price stability and prevent inflation spikes in Papua.
"In the future, we will organize cheap markets not only during Eid but also on other important occasions. This will ensure that people can always access affordable necessities," Ramses said.
He added that the program involves multiple stakeholders, including banks, the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo), and farmer groups, to ensure a steady supply of goods at prices lower than the market rate.
The upcoming cheap market is scheduled to take place six days before Eid, offering essential goods at reduced prices. "We hope the community takes full advantage of this program," he stated.
The Papua Provincial Government is also encouraging local governments at the district and city levels to hold similar events in their respective areas to maximize the program’s benefits for the wider population. ***
