JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Forestry and Environment Agency (DKLH), supports the development of ecotourism in nine regencies and municipalities across Papua.
The support provided by DKLH includes constructing ecotourism infrastructure and facilities, utilizing non-timber forest products, and strengthening human resources (HR).
The Head of DKLH Papua, Aries Toteles, stated that several tourist sites in Papua have already been equipped with the necessary infrastructure.
“We don’t just build facilities, we also prepare the human resources,” said Aries Toteles.
With such preparation, local communities will be ready to manage their areas into attractive tourist destinations.
He emphasized that DKLH consistently supports ecotourism development in Papua, focusing on preserving natural environments and harnessing their natural appeal for economic benefit.
“We involve the local communities so they gain knowledge on how to manage natural resources sustainably, turning them into economic opportunities,” he explained.
This approach ensures that Papua’s natural environment is preserved, while also providing additional income for residents.
He added that if tourism sites in Papua are properly managed, they have the potential to generate revenue for local communities and also contribute to regional income through tourism levies.
“The community must also learn from other regions, because our tourism potential is truly extraordinary,” he concluded. ***
