JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government commemorated Kartini Day by wearing traditional clothing. The event was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Papua Governor's Office.
The commemoration was based on the Papua Governor's Instruction Number 1 of 2025. The date was postponed because April 21 coincided with Second Easter Day.
Acting Assistant III of the Papua Regional Secretariat, Johana Rumbiak, stated that the spirit of Kartini was still very much alive. Both male and female civil servants wore traditional attire representing their regions of origin.
According to Johana, R.A. Kartini fought for women's equality, and the results of her struggle are now evident in various sectors.
"Women today are leading, becoming politicians, academics, and community figures," she said. Johana emphasized that this spirit must be preserved.
She also invited all elements of society to unite in developing Papua. The roles of both women and men are equally important for the future.
“We all must be role models and agents of change,” Johana said. The values of Kartini must be realized through concrete actions. ***
