JAYAPURA – The donation of 13 sacrificial cattle from President Prabowo Subianto to the people of Papua for Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijri is seen as a form of central government attention to Muslims in Papua.
Assistant II to the Papua Regional Secretary, Setiyo Wahyudi, stated that this year marks the first time the President’s sacrificial livestock donation has been distributed not only to the provincial government but also to regencies and cities. Each region is receiving one cow weighing a minimum of 800 kilograms.
"This reflects the President’s care for the people of Papua, especially Muslims celebrating Eid al-Adha," said Setiyo in Jayapura on Thursday (May 22, 2025).
If a cow meeting the required weight is unavailable, it is permissible to substitute it with two cows. This is the case in Mamberamo Raya Regency, which will receive two sacrificial cows from the President.
Two other cows are allocated to the Papua Provincial Government and the City of Jayapura, respectively. These donations will be distributed to different mosques in those areas.
"The cow for the province will be delivered to a mosque in Hamadi, while the one for Jayapura City will go to Baiturrahim Grand Mosque," said Setiyo.
He added that the President’s sacrificial donation carries symbolic value in fostering unity and strengthening the sense of national identity, particularly during religious celebrations.
"This assistance also demonstrates the state’s commitment to being present in all corners of the nation, including Papua," he added.
In addition to the President’s donation, the Papua Provincial Government has also prepared sacrificial animals funded by the regional budget, though in limited numbers due to budget efficiency measures. ***
