JAYAPURA – The Province of Papua has just held the Repeat Voting for the Governor and Deputy Governor Election on August 6. The event received positive feedback from the Papua Provincial General Election Commission, which described it as the most peaceful and secure Repeat Voting ever held.
This was conveyed by Yohannes Fajar Kambon, a member of the Papua Provincial General Election Commission, who stated that the August 6, 2025, re-vote was the safest and most conducive regional election in Papua’s history.
“The re-vote was the safest, most peaceful, problem-free, and most conducive in Papua’s electoral history,” said Kambon in a statement on Thursday (August 7, 2025).
Responding to this, Acting Governor of Papua Agus Fatoni expressed his gratitude for the recognition given by the Papua Provincial General Election Commission. He emphasized that the achievement was the result of collaboration among all parties and the active participation of the Papuan people in maintaining peace and order during the democratic process.
“I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the Papua Provincial General Election Commission for this very positive assessment. This proves that if we all work together and trust one another, Papua can show that democracy can be conducted peacefully, safely, and with dignity,” said Fatoni.
Fatoni also extended his gratitude to all parties involved, including the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, election organizers, the General Election Commission, the Election Supervisory Board, local governments, religious leaders, traditional leaders, community leaders, and all Papuan citizens.
“This achievement is a shared success. Thank you to the people of Papua for demonstrating democratic maturity. This is a new spirit for all of us—Papua can, and a peaceful Papua is a reality,” Fatoni emphasized.
He urged the people of Papua Province to await the official re-vote results from the General Election Commission and to maintain the conducive atmosphere that has been created until the inauguration of the elected Governor and Deputy Governor.
Fatoni also reminded the public to safeguard Papua’s positive image, especially through social media, noting that all news about Papua can be easily accessed nationally and internationally.
“Let us protect Papua’s good name and positive image so that its reputation and harmony remain upheld in the eyes of both the nation and the world,” Fatoni said. ***
