JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government is preparing a comprehensive reform plan to improve the governance of regional government-owned hospitals. Governor Matius Fakhiri stated that strengthening hospital management systems is a key priority to ensure that public health services operate efficiently, transparently, and in accordance with high standards.
“We want to ensure that public hospital services truly serve the people. There must no longer be any system that hinders access to medical care,” said Governor Fakhiri in Jayapura City, on Monday (November 3, 2025).
He explained that the government is currently awaiting the results of ongoing audits at several hospitals. The findings will serve as the basis for restructuring organizational systems, service mechanisms, and oversight procedures across all regional hospitals.
“These improvement steps are not merely about leadership changes, but about comprehensive reform to make hospital management and services more professional,” he said.
Governor Fakhiri also emphasized that fast and humane healthcare services must become a new work culture within public hospitals. He cited an example that patients seeking treatment should be assisted immediately without being burdened by lengthy administrative procedures.
“People come to hospitals seeking help, not bureaucracy. Serve them first, then handle the paperwork later. That’s the mindset we’re changing,” he stated.
