JAYAPURA – The Papua Regional Inspectorate conducted a direct review of service improvements at Dok II Regional Hospital in Jayapura, following the surprise inspection by Papua Governor Matius Fakhiri. The visit aimed to ensure that the hospital management had implemented the corrective measures instructed.

Papua Regional Inspector Danny Korwa said the visit was conducted to observe the follow-up actions taken after the dismissal of the previous director and the appointment of the new Director of Dok II Regional Hospital.

“We want to ensure what has been done so far, particularly the quick steps taken by the director in improving services at the Emergency Unit,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Director of Jayapura Regional Hospital, Andreas Pekey, stated that the hospital is no longer permitted to reject patients even if administrative issues arise. He noted that as of today, they have served 21 patients who previously faced problems related to the insurance status of the Social Security Agency for Health

“Some patients encountered administrative issues, such as inactive Social Security Agency for Health, lack of a referral letter, and other obstacles. In the past, these situations could lead to rejection, but now that is no longer the case,” he said.

According to Andreas, all patients with administrative barriers are still accepted and provided with medical services in accordance with the Papua Governor’s instruction that no hospital should reject patients.

“We have treated such patients. This is the governor’s directive—no patient should be turned away. We are doing our best to comply,” he concluded. ***
