JAYAPURA — Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized the importance of cross-sector synergy and active public participation in preparing the 2027 Regional Government Work Plan. He conveyed this message during the Public Consultation Forum of the 2027 Regional Government Work Plan held in Jayapura on Wednesday, April 23, 2026.
In remarks read by Papua Deputy Governor Aryoko A.F. Rumaropen, the governor, said the forum was a strategic stage in the regional development planning process.
"Development cannot run optimally if it is designed solely by the government. It must involve the aspirations, input, and real needs of the community," he said.
He explained that the Regional Government Work Plan, as an annual document, plays an important role in translating the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan into measurable, targeted programs and activities that have a direct impact on the public.
Therefore, the public consultation forum serves as a space for collaboration to ensure that Papua's development direction is truly inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable.
The governor also stressed that Papua's development policy direction for 2027 will focus on cross-sector integration and strengthening synergy between regions.
The development focus includes integrating digital-based public services, improving education and health services through the use of technology such as telemedicine, and ensuring the equal distribution of teachers and health workers.
In addition, strengthening security and public order through synergy between regional governments, security forces, and community participation is also a priority. The development of integrated economic zones through downstream processing of leading commodities, partnerships, and the strengthening of creative economies based on local wisdom is also a key concern.
"Papua faces significant challenges, from geographical conditions to limited access to basic services. However, we also have great strengths in the form of abundant natural resources and cultural diversity," he said.
For this reason, the governor invited all stakeholders to play an active role in providing constructive input. "Synergy among regional government agencies must continue to be strengthened so that programs do not overlap," he added.
The governor expressed hope that the forum would produce high-quality recommendations to help realize a Papua that is intelligent, prosperous, and harmonious. ***
