Patatas Factory owned by the Provincial Government of Papua along with 10 hectares of abandoned land in Arsopura Village, Skanto District, Keerom Regency, was immediately utilized by local farmers to grow and process corn and cassava.
This was after a verbal communication between the Acting Interim Regent of Keerom and the Acting Secretary of Papua, more recently, in Jayapura.
To the journalists, Regent of Keerom, Dr. Muhammad Ridwan Rumasukun, SE, MM has instructed the relevant Regional Apparatus Organization to work with local farmer groups to conduct suitable planting around the land area owned by the Papuan Government.
Farmers will also take advantage of the unused machinery that the factory has, in hopes of improving the processed commodity.
"Certainly in the near future we will immediately correspond with the Governor through the Secretary to borrow land. In addition to land loans, we also safeguard government assets, "he explained.
Ridwan said that the utilization of assets by farmers in Keerom will actually save the assets of the Papua Provincial Government because in addition to the economic side will help the farmers, those assets will also not be misused by irresponsible people.
Moreover, the factory area of 10 hectares, most of which is still empty land will be used for farming.
Earlier on Sunday (1/11/2020), Regent of Keerom with the Chairman of the Regional Representative Council Keerom Bambang Wijianto reviewed the Patatas after previously doing the first harvest of dried corn.
Looking at the factory area as well as its unmaintained assets, Ridwan approved a proposal that the area could be loaned to local farmers.
The Papuan government also paved the way for the Keerom Government to utilize unused assets for the benefit of economic improvement and the welfare of the people in Papua.
"We have a meeting with the Acting Regent of Keerom. Instead of the land being used only by irresponsible people, it is better utilized by the Keerom Government," said the Head of the Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs and Labor of Papua Province Omah Laduani Ladamay, not long ago.
