JAYAPURA - The Department Marine Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) of Papua encourages fishermen to land their catches at the nearest Fish Landing Port (PPI), to support data collection needs.
"700,114 tons of fish caught during 2021 continues to increase every year".
"But it can actually be much more if all PPI in Papua operate optimally. This means that more fishing boats spread to agile ports and finally data collection is not optimal," explained the Head of the Papua Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Iman Djuniawal in Jayapura, Thursday (16/6/2022).
He said that currently Papua has nine PPI, which have been revamped by PPI Hamadi, PPI Pomako in Mimika, PPI Nabire and Jayapura regency.
"So that if we can support the regional budget changes, we will make improvements to PPI Biak. The other four we will do in the following year,"
"I believe that if all goes well, the actual amount of production will be detected," he said. ***
