YAHUKIMO - The Papua Provincial Government is moving quickly to help landslide victims in Walma District, Yahukimo Regency.
The Regional Secretary of Papua M. Ridwan Rumasukun, who received the staff report, immediately went down to the disaster site with 750 tons of staple food andcash assistance for the victims of the natural disaster.
The aid was handed over to Head of Walma District, Yaseki Iksomon, in the courtyard of the Walma district office, Friday (26/8/2022) morning. Also witnessing the officials of the Papua Provincial Government, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency, William R. Manderi.
Ridwan Rumasukun on the occasion expressed deep concern over the natural disaster in Walma. He also hopes that the assistance can more or less ease the burden on the residents of the Walma community who are victims of the landslide disaster.
"We are sorry to hear the news of the landslide in Walma Village. That's why we immediately moved to provide assistance after receiving the direction of Papua governor Lukas Enembe. The Governor also conveyed greetings to all the people," he explained.
Meanwhile, to anticipate landslides in the future, he urged the community to start planting trees. So it can be landslide barriers when the rainy season arrives.
It is known that the staple food from the Papua Provincial Government which were rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, granulated sugar, coffee and salt, all of which were confirmed to have arrived in Walma District and will be distributed to the eight affected villages.
The head of the Papua Regional Disaster Management Agency, William R Manderi, appealed to Walma residents to remain vigilant about the aftermath of natural disasters especially in the rainyseason. ***
